BuyFlipRent.com Screencasts

screenshot of Buy Flip Rent dot com website As mentioned on the "Websites" page of this portfolio, BuyFlipRent.com is a website about real estate investment. Each day of the workshop has an introductory video (filmed by the subject matter expert) and a review screencast. The review screencasts were picture slideshows with audio narration reviewing the material for that day, and was about 30-60 long. In total there were 40 review screencasts.

Teachers Without Borders Screencasts

Teachers Without Borders (TWB) is a non-profit organization that works on several educational initiatives all over the world. In 2008, TWB is created a new website with social networking components. I was responsible for creating four screencasts to introduce members to the new functionality. The screencasts cover individual workspaces, group workspaces, discussion boards and course creation. The screencasts were created using the screen-caputuring software Snapz Pro X2, Final Cut Pro and Photoshop.

MTC Segments

MTC (Management & Training Corporation) is contracted to run Job Corps Centers and prisons by state and federal governments. Job Corps is a federally-funded program that is designed to provide low-income students a chance to learn useful vocational skills to better prepare them for the workforce. Because MTC-operated Job Corps and prison facilities are scattered all over the world, the company uses an internal "video magazine" to keep the company informed about MTC news, events and policy. Each video magazine is about 15 minutes long. I was specifically assigned to a segment called "What's Happening?" The "What's Happening?" footage was filmed by staff of the Job Corps centers and then sent to me for editing.

As I gained more experience with the company, I took on additional responsibilities. I began cataloging tapes, writing scripts for other stories, and setting up lighting for filming. Some of these stories include the introduction to the Willacy County Detention Center, the "Hook Me Up" Clothing Store, and the Corrections trade. The footage was shot using a Philips DVCPRO50 camera and were edited with Final Cut Pro. Graphics were done by my supervisor using Livetype, which is part of the Final Cut Suite.

Open Water

As mentioned on my writing page, the OpenWater project is a five minute video about water purification after a disaster. The assignment required that our group use only original material or media that has been licensed to allow for reuse. While I did not do the video editing, I did write the script for this project (a copy is available here). Also, like others in the group, I gave the video editor feedback about the video as it was being developed. You can find the video at The OpenWater Project.

eMedia

The eMedia project was started by UEN(Utah Educational Network) as means of delivering educational videos on demand to K-12 teachers around the state of Utah. My main responsibility was to transfer the videos from tape to the computer and catalog them. Click here (DOC format) for more information about the eMedia project.
